Hello from Bukoba! - a beautiful city on the Western shore of Lake Victoria. Arrived Wednesday morning and had breakfast at David and Janette Cowie's (two fellow volunteers based in Bukoba) house. Wandered around the city and enjoyed seeing the other volunteers who are also based in this area of the country.
The people of Bukoba are very friendly like most of the people in Tanzania. The city has a very lively bustling city center and the market has the largest stock of bananas I've ever seen. Many of the bananas get shipped to Mwanza or other cities south of the lake. Outside of the city center there are some beautiful places to take walks - along the coast towards the pier and down one of the roads towards the airport. There are not as many wazungus in these areas but the sites are worth the trip. I spent the last night in Bukoba at the Yasila Hotel, on the beach looking out at Musila? Island. Sitting on the beach eating fresh Tilapia from the lake was definitely a nice way to remember Bukoba.
Friday I took a short road trip to Ndolage - a large village about 1 hour west of Bukoba. Ndolage has a small hospital and nursing school where Teresita Sabio - another volunteer is based as a nursing school teacher trainer.
The center of this large village has a small market and hospital and not much else aside from spectacular views from atop the mountain looking east towards the lake. From the top of the mountain you can probably see for many miles almost out to the lake.
Still have the green light to begin working in Lindi's Sokoine Hospital by September first although this date is not firm because I'm still waiting on my house and work permit renewal.

What you do is really amazing and you should be proud. What is it like? One day i wish to go oversees and volunteer as an early childhood teacher in South America or Africa etc.

I am missing the serenity of Ndolage and the small water falls just few minutes from the house where I used to live. I also remember Yasila hotel and the delicious Tilapia. Thanks for writing something about my work in the nursing school.Hope to visit the place again someday.
